Overall, this picture is very well done. The vision and position of the characters in the field matches their personalities almost perfectly. Perhaps Fluttershy is sharing a lazy afternoon with Rainbow Dash, showing her the wonders of nature. The surprised expression on Rainbow's face shows exactly how she might react, and is super adorable as well! Although I don't know much about it, your shading and lighting technique are incredible. I especially like the glare the sun gives off in the overall frame. My only real criticism would be to show only the tops of the flowers because of the aerial view. Giving them stalks makes it seem like they are growing parallel to the ground. But your overall impact is definitely achieved. I squee'd. Great job!
I don't know if this was you're intention not to do so, but i think you could have made RD's eyes look down and cross a bit so it looks like she's looking at the butterfly a bit more directly. (But that can be more of a preference thing.) I think you did the lighting rather well, (maybe a bit bright for Fluttershy but I'm way to overcritical in this regard). The wings look different from the show and I really like how good you drew them here, especially compared to the show. (That's something I've noticed in the show, is how simple the wings are. you seem to have given it a little more complexity and realism and that really stood out to me). Overall, a very nice piece. For me it was a instant download. (I hope I wasn't too overcritical) :/
To me how the tails seem to flow so cleanly out of the pony's crotches is rather funny. I think it is rather too perfect, like the pony's lied down carefully, and you, the guy doing the photo shoot, had some intern arrange the hair just so. I think skewing the hair from the base either left or right would look more natural. Imagine you had long hair in a ponytail, and you flopped down one the grass heavily. Wouldn't your hair swing to the left or right when you laid down? Wouldn't it be all messed up and tousled? Would it lie perfectly behind your neck? Anyway, on a different note, I appreciate the clarity of colors, and how each color is distinct from the rest. The yellow pony's eyes sparkle just right.
Also, I see what jasondash is saying. I agree that Rainbow Dash's eyes should be a little more crossed to make it more apparent that she's looking at the butterfly, but I suppose that's only if you did intend that.
